Whether you’re redoing your entire bathroom or simply want a light refresh, choosing a bathroom mirror can be a bit overwhelming, thanks to the extensive number of available options.
To make the whole process easier, use the following filters to help you focus your search, so you’ll end up with a mirror that’s just right for your space.
Type of Mirror. While you can certainly opt for a traditional vanity mirror, perhaps you need a mirror that serves double-duty? If you’re short on storage space, consider a cabinet mirror, where you can store everyday necessities like toothpaste and moisturizer out of sight. A ledge mirror, (which is designed with a bottom ledge), serves as a spot for a toothbrush holder or small basket of makeup.
Or, maybe you need some better lighting? Consider a front- or back-lit lighted mirror, which casts light directly on your face.
Frame or Frameless. Depending on the type of mirror you choose, you may need to decide if you want a frame surrounding the glass. A frameless mirror adds a sleek, clean look to a space, while a framed mirror gives you a chance to incorporate extra detail.
Style. Do you want something that’s less out of the box, with a little more flair? Or is understated more your style?
Size. In general, the size of the bathroom vanity is what determines the size of the bathroom mirror. A good rule of thumb is to select a size that’s 2 to 4 inches narrower than the width of your vanity. Leave about 6 inches of space between the top of the vanity and the lower edge of the mirror, to accommodate water that might splash from the faucet. In terms of height, center the mirror at eye level (taking into account everyone in your household).
One last tip: You might also want to make a mirror mock-up before you land on a purchase. Cut heavy-duty paper out in different sizes and shapes, then hang above your vanity to help you visualize what might work best for your space.
